“Seamen Welfare Board”
As per provision of section 12.(1) of the Bangladesh Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1983 a Seafarers Welfare Board has been Constituted vide Ministry of Shipping, Notification No-Shipping-3-6(1)/93-412, dated 27.07.1993,consisting 09(Nine) members where The Director-General of the Department of Shipping is the Chairman of the Board and The Director, Directorate of Seamen & Emigration Welfare is the Member Secretary .
The Seamen Welfare Board is as follows:-

7. | Foreign Ship Owners Representative | Member |
8. | Mr. Enamul Haque Chowdhury , M/S Haque & Sons,Chittagong | Member |
9. | Director,Directorate of Seamen & Emigration Welfare | Member Secretary |
Terms of Reference of the Board: Generally, the Board shall advice to convey recommendation the Government to take measure regarding well being of seafarers while they are afloat and ashore particularly The Board shall recommend the Govt.to take steps regarding under mentioned subject :-
(A) The Provision for Seafarers Provident funds.
(B) The Establishment of Hostel or Boarding and Lodging houses for the Seafarers.
(C)The Establishment of clubs, canteens, libraries and other facilities for Seafarers.
(D) The Establishment of hospitals or medical treatment for Seafarers.
(E) Education and other facilities for Seafarers.
